Claims

  • CLAIM-Youngest Qualified Engineer
If you are called to work as the youngest qualified engineer and miss your trip as a result, figure out what you did make versus what you would have and submit a miscellaneous claim code DW. Follow up with timekeeping if necessary to ensure you are paid correctly.
  • CLAIM- Working Ahead in Pool
If you are called to work ahead in the pool, ask the caller how many turns to move ahead. If it is MORE than one, politely point out the agreement specifies that you are only required to move ahead ONE turn If they persist, DO NOT REFUSE. Instead submit a basic day penalty claim using code PE. Use the following language. Claiming basic day penalty for violation of Article 3 (E) #4 BLE-SOO Agreement. Required to move ahead more than one pool turn. Agreement calls for next turn to be moved up. If that turn is also vacant, the junior rested/qualified engineer is to be called as per Article 3 (E) #5.
  •  CLAIM- Extra Roadswitcher                                                                                                                                                                            If you get called for what the Carrier refers to as an extra roadswitcher such as G66EX-14, ect. and do not perform any switching (Columbia Power Plant service is considered industry switching), file a basic day penalty claim using Article 20 (I) in support. If you go more than seventy-five (75) miles beyond the terminal limits of Portage in either direction, file a basic day penalty claim using Article 20 (H) in support.
  • CLAIM- Recapturing Air                                                                                                                                                          If you are instructed to recapture the air on a train other than what you were called for, submit a basic day penalty claim (for each occurrence) for a violation of Article 39 (C) #6 BLE-SOO Agreement.  Example: I was required to reset air on 289-08 parked on the siding at Portage. This was in no way connected with my own assignment.  I was called for 288-09.
  • CLAIM- Inward Facing Cameras                                                                                                                                                                       Effective immediately, if you operate a locomotive with an inward-facing camera, claim basic day penalty using code “PE”. Use the following language:  Claiming basic day penalty for operation locomotive #(the unit’s number) equipped with an in-ward facing camera. There is no basis in current BLE-SOO CBA to allow for a creation of a video record of in-cab crew activity.
